The gap between your financial advisor and your tax planner is where some planning mistakes may occur.

Paul Axberg, CFP® CPA CIMA® — one advisor, everything connected.

Most retirees manage their W-2 years well. It’s the transition to living off investment accounts — with different tax treatment, different timing decisions, and no more employer-sponsored income — where things get complicated. Paul helps you navigate that transition with a coordinated plan, not disconnected advice.

Axberg’s unique “Foundation FORMula” is the process we use to understand our client’s needs on a deep level and help them formulate financial, tax, insurance, and legacy planning that enable them to pursue those goals with confidence.

The Axberg Difference

When it comes to your financial future, experience matters. Here’s why Axberg Wealth Management stands apart:

The Axberg Integrated Approach to Wealth Management

Most retirees work with a financial advisor on one side of town and a CPA on the other. Neither has full visibility into what the other is doing — and the gap between them is where some mistakes are likely to happen.

At Axberg Wealth Management, Paul coordinates your investments, tax strategy, and financial plan as a single, integrated system. That means fewer surprises at tax time, more intentional decisions about when and how to draw from your accounts, and a retirement income strategy built around your actual situation — not a generic model.

The Client Experience

Testimonials and endorsements presented may have been provided by current clients of the firm. Individuals providing the comments were not compensated, directly or indirectly, in exchange for their testimonial or endorsement. However, individuals with favorable experiences are more likely to be encouraged to leave reviews. Reviews and opinions presented are not necessarily representative of all clients. Results may vary from those described herein. One should evaluate the advisor’s qualifications and approach to determine suitability for their own needs. Investing carries an inherent element of risk, including potential loss of principal. Past performance is not indicative of future results.

Why Retirement Income Is Different

During your working years, your income was relatively predictable. A W-2 arrived, taxes were withheld, and your financial decisions — saving, investing, spending — happened in a familiar rhythm.

Retirement changes the equation entirely.

Your income now comes from multiple account types — 401(k)s, IRAs, taxable brokerage accounts, Social Security — each taxed differently and each carrying its own timing considerations. Draw from the wrong account in the wrong year, and you may trigger higher Medicare premiums, accelerate RMDs, or push yourself into a higher bracket unnecessarily.

This is the retirement income problem: it’s not just about how much you’ve saved. It’s about how you access it, when, and in what order — and making those decisions without a coordinated investment and tax strategy is where wealth quietly disappears.

Paul Axberg works with retirees to build a withdrawal strategy that reflects the full picture of their accounts, their tax situation, and their goals — so more of what they’ve built stays with them.

Institutional-Grade Investment Management

Paul builds client portfolios using a curated group of institutional money managers, each offering a distinct, professionally managed model designed around a specific investment approach. Rather than relying on a single strategy, Paul can draw from multiple managers and management styles within the same account, selecting the model best suited to each client’s goals and risk tolerance.

Paul also uses State Street’s institutional analytical research to build his own branded model portfolios, applying that research directly to how client accounts are allocated and managed. For clients who prefer an individualized approach rather than a model, Paul has access to an open-architecture platform through a separate clearing relationship, allowing for direct, individual stock selection tailored to their specific goals.

That range of approaches, combined with Paul’s CIMA® designation — earned at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and issued by the Investments & Wealth Institute — means each client’s portfolio is built with institutional-level expertise and matched specifically to how they want to invest.
